This amounts to 1 in 4 people around the world without safely managed drinking water. 3.5 billion lack safely managed sanitation, while 2.2 billion lack basic hand washing facilities. Improvements in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) are critical to ensure progress towards SDG 6: sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
The effects of climate-related disasters are felt largely through water
According to the World Bank, 9 out of 10 climate events around the world are felt through water, be it drought, floods, storms, inconsistent rainfall, or a combination of multiple. Issues of climate change are issues of water.
